A legacy carried forward

JD Washington Ranch is a fifth-generation family ranch built on resilience, respect for the land, and a commitment to quality.
Founder Farouk O. Plummer grew up immersed in the traditions of his great-grandfather, JD Washington, and great-great-grandfather, Pappy Jim Washington. Today, that legacy guides a forward-looking approach to cattle husbandry, sustainable agriculture, and premium beef.

Our ranching model brings traditional cattle knowledge together with regenerative agriculture to support soil, forage, biodiversity, and animal welfare.
Managed pasture movement helps maintain forage quality, protect soil health, and reduce overgrazing.
Consistent, high-quality forage supports a low-stress lifecycle and the premium beef profile JDWR is developing.
Animal health, vegetation, water quality, facilities, and equipment are monitored with herd well-being in mind.

Built for resilience
JDWR prioritizes hardy, fertile cattle adapted to local conditions, with breeding goals centered on health, productivity, and superior meat quality.
The ranch's program includes Texas Longhorn, Charolais, Angus, and the developing JDWR Brangus and Wayngus hybrids. Its breeding approach combines genetic selection, natural mating, and synchronized artificial insemination as needed.

Farouk O. Plummer
As a fifth-generation rancher, Farouk O. Plummer proudly continues a family legacy that began in 1888.
For more than a century, JD Washington Ranch has been dedicated to responsible land stewardship, livestock management, and the advancement of sustainable beef production practices.
Farouk is a graduate of Antioch University and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension's Ranch Management University, where he further developed his expertise in cattle production, ranch operations, and modern grazing systems.
Today, he raises a Brangus crossbreed, combining the hardiness and adaptability of Brahman genetics with the carcass quality and performance characteristics of Angus cattle. His focus is on producing profitable, high-quality beef through sound management practices, strategic genetic selection, and a commitment to animal health and nutrition.
His areas of interest and expertise include nutrient requirements and supplementation programs, genetic strategies for improving herd profitability, and innovative grazing management techniques. He is particularly passionate about nontraditional grazing systems, including the use of cover crops and rotational grazing, which improve soil health, increase forage utilization, and enhance the long-term sustainability of ranching operations.
By blending generations of ranching experience with modern agricultural science, Farouk remains committed to producing efficient, resilient cattle while preserving the land for future generations.
